I am in the process of building Jordan’s SVRN flipper (and having a great time). I was able to source a single 120mAh 2s Lipo from ComponentShop before they sold out - but I’d like to get some backups.
Is anyone aware of any reputable sources of small batteries that are in stock?
I’m pretty sure there’s not a better option than “wait for Component Shop to restock”. They do get supplies in fairly regularly.
The 120mah batteries are pretty small so if you can fit in a 200 or 250 it might be worth considering that too, since you get more run time, more current and the slightly bigger batteries are easier to find. Even 200mah are like hens’ teeth outside of Component Shop.
December is a while to wait yeah! I have a habit of stocking up as soon as they get any in.
On which subject, I think I have a couple of 120mAh packs that I got in case I needed then for an ant cluster, but you’re welcome to them if you need them. Just a pain shipping batteries so might not be worth it unless you happen to be near Nottingham!
(On that subject, I note from the FT website that not only do you have to pay international shipping to get batteries sent over, you also have to buy an “electronic device” with every pack so they can ship them as part of a device…)
No jokes, I’ve just been picking up disposable vapes I find in the street (with gloves on or a plastic bag wrapped round my hand, most of them smell gross and all of them have been in someone else’s gob). Inside is usually a 280mah cylindrical or (preferably) prismatic pouch cell that weighs 5-7g. Sometimes a handy little USB-C port with built in resistors and solder pads for power, too.
I use a single cell with an MT3608 boost converter for drive in Fatal Deviant. I crank the output up to 12v and it can supply enough current to run 4x aliexpress N20s. I run the servo off a smaller boost converter at 8V so it doesn’t blow up. Birdemic has three in series and they seem to be ok at 5-10A for short (<10s) bursts. Considering they’re free I can cope with them being a few grammes heavier than a ~200mah lipo pack.
I also use disposable vape batteries. A friend of mine has a shop and he provided me with enough to last a lifetime! The ones I have are generally 360mAh, weigh about 9g and are cylindrical. I run mine as a 2S pack. I might give your boost converter idea a try.
Yes, give it a shot! These are the ones I’ve had the most luck with, you can get slightly smaller ones with the same chip (and a USB-C port) but they have an open wire wound inductor which is less robust than the potted one on the larger boards.
