First bot building

Hello all. I am using this to say about my first robot design and build. It’s a lifter/chucker named master of chuckits.

If anyone knows any good free cad resources please let me know

While I’m a huge advocate of CAD It’s not completely essential for making robots.

That said, Fusion 360 is the best of the free ones with OnShape following.

If you can spring a monthly fee then Solidworks is about £10/mo for a makers licence and I believe it’s the most capable and accessible option that doesn’t have any limits and is a great industry level skill to have under your belt.

I’m using Tinkercad for my first few builds just because it’s so simple and it’s free and unless your looking for an insanely complicated design, it does the job I made no big dill with Tinkercad:

Although, that’s at an ant weight scale I’m afraid I haven’t taken the plunge into beetleweights yet so I’m unsure about cad at that level.

That’s brilliant thanks so much

Really bad cad

Looks great so far!

Keep going!

Thanks. Don’t really use cad much so that really helps

We do a bit of rebranding.

So I decided it would be a bit easier and cheaper if it was just a brute force shover bot called master of shoveits and here it is!

it’s best to start with antweights. you have to work within a 4-inch cube, though.

what exactly are those metal bits? shafts of motors?

4in cube rule is a lot rarer now than it has been previously and saying one ‘has’ to work within that rule is completely geography dependent. Additionally, saying it’s best to start with antweights is also heavily dependent on the individual. I’m not sure this is tremendously useful advice.

I wanted to start with beetle because i am not great with working on small scale things and the prongs are there just to deal some damage

Looking good!

Have you got a plan for the components you’re going to run and the materials for the chassis etc?

Yeah I’m looking to get some decent hdpe and I have the drive kit
