Spent the afternoon doing some CAD (cardboard aided design) I’m having fun, but as I’m starting to lay stuff out and work on things I’m wondering if this is even going to work. I know it’s super bare bones presently.
Also should I really be putting stuff like this into bot builds? I’m super new to all of this so any advice would hugely appreciated and welcomed !
In all seriousness though, that’s what most featherweights look like inside! Those big pillow block bearings do tend to be heavy and brittle, but they’re also cheap and easy to replace, or you can pop the bearings out and into a big lump of TPU if they crack or you need the weight for something else.
Sorry I meant should I be putting a forum post like this into Bot Builds & Designs categories
But yes, I wasn’t sure on the big pillow block bearings, I might get a BMX bottom bracket and shove that into a block of HDPE, I’m not the biggest fan on the bearings I have. Glad I’m on the right track though at least. I got it all together thus far and was looking at it and just couldn’t get the feeling out of my head that I don’t have a bloody clue what I’m doing.
I think it’s a totally valid approach, you can at least lay the parts out and see that they fit.
What I used, when building mine, was prototyping it out of plywood and MDF, which meant I could build a driving chassis with all the parts in the right place. plywood and MDF are much cheaper than hdpe and easier to cut than metal.
