It’s been a few years coming but 2024 sees the return of BBB’s Summer Showdown! After going quite literally underground in 2022 and 2023, our summer full combat beetleweight event is back out in the (hopeful) sunshine on Saturday 20th July at the Left Handed Giant Taproom in St Philips, Bristol.
We plan to retain some of Subterranean’s DNA with a guaranteed allocation for some new machines, but more details on this and the signup process to come in the following weeks with signups opening in June.
In the meantime, we’re excited to see lots of you at the very same taproom in just under 2 weeks for our first ever Pub Beetles event!
Signups for our next Beetleweight full combat competition, BBB Summer Showdown, will open 1 week today! From 7-8pm on the 6th June, a form will be open at bbb.gd/summer allowing you to enter the signup lottery for the event.
We will be running the BBB Beetleweight Ruleset, available at bbb.gd/brules. There are a few changes between this and typical rulesets run at Beetle competitions so please ensure you read thoroughly. The Pub Modifiers will not be in place - full combat all the way!
There will be an allocation of slots made to brand new robots and new competitors, so if you want to be more likely to make it in, this is the way to go! Please only enter once per team, picking either the new bots or existing bots route - there will be plenty of slots for existing bots too.
A new robot is classed as one that has not fought before in any incarnation - no updates, rebuilds or continued lineage!
New teams are ones where this will be their first or second ever beetle event they’ve competed at.
Failure to comply with this may lose you your slot at proof of mobility - we’re trusting you to keep the spirit of our new bot event going
Proof of Mobility will be due 7th July (two weeks before the event) - this is a newly filmed video clip of your entry demonstrating driving without external influence (the robot’s chassis on the ground, all electronics contained). We do not expect a finished robot for PoM.
The competition is on 20th July at LHG taproom, Bristol and will be run using the familiar Showdown format, (all competitors will get at least 3 competition fights) with bots randomly selected for a 3-way melee, 2 1v1 fights, and finally a knockout competition for the top scorers, with plenty of time for whiteboard fights for competitors who have been knocked out.
