Was hoping to one day host a college event for plants in Ireland in NUIG if there is interest, just wondering what thickness of polycarb would be needed for the arena walls for full on plant weights?
maybe 10mm? it wouldn’t need to be that thick, considering there isnt a plastic harder than polycarb (correct me if im wrong)
Go full antweight spec then you should be future proof!
This from the AWS rules:
Arena safety enclosure (outmost layer) minimum 4mm with a minimum (6mm / 50mm height in any areas where the area floor is adjacent to the safety enclosure. This can be achieved by adding a “kick plate” layer of polycarbonate of at least 2mm if required.
If you want something really basic and PLaNT focused you could do a rock and robots style (empty) sandpit.
True about the future proofing sound for the response ![]()
I plan for more than just the sportsman plants but a sick design for a sportsman arena in the future
10mm poly is our full combat beetle arena! Even our sportsman feather arena is only 6mm.
But for ant arenas:
6mm is probably safer end of full combat ant arena spec if you’re starting from scratch now probably. And PLANTS still require that full enclosure anyways.
When there’s spinners your “kickers” (arena fences) are going to take more of the hits than the bigger walls behind them. Ours are also 4mm poly.
But yes just to get started sportsman (no spinners) may be your easiest and cheapest option!
A reminder “PLANTs” can have plastic spinners.
No fast spinning weapon competitions are called “sportsman”
Oh sorry most of the events I’ve gone to so far is GRoCS where they call it PLaNTS but don’t allow destructive weponary. My bad. Obviously if you didn’t want sportsman then a rock and robots arena wouldn’t work
Sound for the clarification, the dream is to have the arena be a bit like old school robot wars, with the voice etc, would be class for building up hype if there is spectators
Would be a tiny bit risky lmao thanks for replying tho ![]()
