200mm is bigger than my beetle. I love the tethered spinner bar, I think you should use the opportunity to tell everyone you’ve found a way to enter a spinner in sportsman and then not elaborate.
Thanks!
20cm, just 5 cm larger than a normal ant, but im sure people would like some clearance. Not too bad though, but i think 200mm is fine for a beetle and a tad big for an ant.
So… Rock & Robots 22 just happened! how did it go?
Well… it was okay, i guess!
My first fight was against this massive ant with big wheels called my baby. It had this cute little flipper that looked like a plastic shovel. I drove to him, struggling to keep in a straight line because one of my n20s had failed and i had been provided by two others (WITH A DIFFERENT RPM) and not knowing that, I swapped out both, so one side of my drive was faster for the rest of the fights. Yeesh. But in this fight, i managed to get under him and push him aroung, dragging him around the side a bit nascar style until he drove into the pit. Not bad for fight one!
The same can’t be said for the next fights. I forgot how they went so I’ll update later.
You guys don’t want to know about My Baby. The more you look at it, the worse it got (balloon tyres, wheels being arms and legs, questionable lifter shape/positioning and almost having to fight a robot named Horny Forker in the semis).
And for anyone wondering Nugget (the robot this page is about) went 1-2 in the main contest, but I forgor about the jousting (think it reached round 2)
very much a questionable design
Questionability at an all time high. Other than the motor kerfuffle, I’d say the design would work pretty decently. Slap on some 1000rpms and that thing is going BRRRRRRRRRRRRRR. If it’s underweight, maybe add in a cheeky lifter (might be big and need a redesign for that though). Looking forward to seeing it if you show up for ‘23
Same here. Probably just a bit of luck for winning that u’n but… never mind.
Nugget V3 is recieving a few major upgrades!
- Even faster drive (6v 3000rpm N20s), for more spinny chaos
- Grippier wheels (silicone or foam)
- Maybe a chain for the flaily bit instead of a string
- better forks (using gravity with bearings and maybe springs to get better ground game
- Googly eyes (why not)
- Better flail?!?
You can suggest some more as i can’t be bothered to think of more.
I think a chain on the flail would be a good idea as it will stop the string getting caught in the back wheels.
Definitely needs googly eyes!!!
Foam is generally not a very good wheel at ants. It can work but you need to cover them in something grippy first. I think that the best option would be some wheels from BBB.
Also, bearings are definately not necessary at ants, just a rod or a wire through a hole is enough!
GOOGLY EYES
thanks guys - eventually i’ll get aroung to all that. Love the suggestion about GOOGLY EYESSSSSSS
They go up to 3000 RPM!? Also strongly reconsider googly eyes, as without Sir Googly I’m on top in that side quest (the most important of all, according to Harry)
The accompaniment of the googly eyes and the 6v drive makes a good difference
I could make it brushless drive, but even withought it it could still be called a proto meltybrain thingy
The new motors should arrive soon, not planning to run a much different setup or stuff, so it will be the same ish. I should make him more heavily armoured (more 316l?) but we’re about to see.
(nugget is ded now)
