Servo Stretching on a Malenki HV?

Hello again BBB Forums!

So I’ve managed to get Sunday Drive up and running and I intend to use her grabbers for self righting, but I’m having trouble figuring out how servo stretching on the HV Malenki Nano works.

I’m using a Flysky FS-i6 controller and the interface can be really hard to read and I haven’t been able to find any tutorial out there that is either extremely outdated or doesn’t have footage or photos that walk you through the entire process. For a visual learner like me it’s incredibly frustrating!

If someone could show me how to do it I’d be so grateful!

You don’t need to do anything on the transmitter, it’s all through the malenki itself - have a scout through the malenki documentation :slightly_smiling_face:

I did scour through it but I’m having a hard time.

The robot can drive but the servo isn’t really working. When it starts up the servo stays down and I can’t get the grabbing claws to move up or down. It’s definitely active, but it just won’t budge.

I’m also having difficulty figuring out how to assign a switch to Channel 5 because every time I try it does absolutely nothing and I am very confused. :frowning:

Does the servo definitely move outside of the bot?

Sort of. I’ve removed it and it moves but it’s really slow even with a fresh lipo and I don’t think servo stretching has worked.

Forgive me it’s probably a small issue with an easy fix but I’m really dumb with this sort of stuff.

Consider checking the end points on your servo channel in the transmitter settings (just in case they’re not 100%-100%) and if on the Display page the bar for that channel is maxed out when you push the stick to the end.

If there’s no issue with either of those I’d consider trying a different servo if you have one around. It may be that you’ve accidentally cooked the one you’re using.

Yeah looks like it’s been cooked. Back to the drawing board!

Thankfully this was only really the practice setup I did using Joe Earlam’s soldering guide so it’s not a big deal.

For assigning a switch to Channel 5, you need to go into the Aux. channels menu.

My preference is to have channel 5 on Switch D (the one above the right stick), don’t forget to hold down the “Cancel” button to save your changes.

Also go into the Switches Assign menu and move throttle hold and any other functions to a different switch than the one you want to use for channel 5.

Still looks like the servo is cooked and honestly the soldering job I did is pretty botched so I think I’m going to start over. At least I got Sunday Drive to move which I consider a win.

So if I’m starting over with a new Malenki HV I assume all I have to do is let it bind and then flip the switch 10 times?

Yeah, turn the robot on (after binding), with the transmitter off. Wait about 5 seconds, then turn the transmitter on. Don’t drive the robot, then you should be able to flip the switch the appropriate number of times, then drive and see if it has the desired effect.

If you drive the robot it leaves config mode immediately and won’t go back until it’s turned off then on.

The config mode only activates after it’s been waiting for a few seconds, so that if it glitches during a fight, it won’t end up in config mode.

What was the problem/solution in the end?

A mixture of things. Figuring out which switch channel 5 was assigned to and changing it. I also had to tweak the position the servo horn started at but everything seems good now!
