Switches and motors

Hi,

I’ve got 2 small queries.

  1. Are screw switches allowed, and if so what else do I need?

  2. For a spinner, what motor and esc should I use?

Previously I’ve made a pusher bot but i only used the BBB switch that comes with the antweight kit.

Thanks all

Going on your tags I’m assuming this is for an 150g antweight.

As per AWS rules, backed up by BBB screw switches are not appropriate.

4a) Robots must have an externally accessible way of being shut down (e.g. a power switch, removable link or battery plug) that can be operated without tools.

You can use them at beetle level, so long as they’re fingertech or lynx with the approved 2.5mm hex key.

There’s a lot of variables that go into spinner motor and ESC selection but it’s pretty hard to go wrong with an 1806.

This is a super easy option!

Thanks.

How does a removable link work? It says online that if a spinner hits the link then your bot would just get immobilized.

Thanks

A removable link is just a plug of some description that completes a circuit, in the same way a switch does.

If a spinner hit your switch it would also be immobilised,

Do you have any recommendations of where i could possibly buy one?

It’s just a connector with a wire loop - so at antweight that would typically be a JST and the circuit Harry’s posted above.

But if you’ve used a switch before I’d use it again it’s pretty much the standard.

Would I need a led with a normal switch?

There’s no LED requirements for ants - give the rules a good read
