just wondering what are some easy improvements in the design faze of the bot that i can make
Hi Ryan,
Good start with the CAD so far! Would be helpful to know a little more about what materials you’re using and what methods of construction you’re going for. More detailed list components would help too.
Off the bat my comments would be you’re looking quite thin on the chassis and it seems to be quite large, leading to lots of empty space which is wasted weight.
thank you its probably going to be all pla and hot glued together and the walls are 2mm think i might be able to print it out of abs the drum weapon might have m8 screws instead of those little teeth but my school event if only plastic
| Part | weight |
|---|---|
| n20 | 9.7 |
| n20 | 9.7 |
| battrey | 17 |
| dual channel esc(n20(7)) | 7 |
| reciver | 2.5 |
| motor | 23 |
| esc(motor(5)) | 5 |
| 73.9 |
So it’s a full combat plastic class? May I just ask about the arena they are using.
Going back on the construction point, I think you’re missing a trick by printing the panels then gluing them together, why don’t you try and design a frame that is one piece and printed - then you don’t waste weight on the glue and it will be much stronger.
I have built a similar style robot. My chassis was one lump of printed ABS (green) or nylon (white) You’ll notice as well there is not a lot of extra space in there as well. You don’t have to go to the extreme but I think you can shrink by a lot.
If you are struggling for weight then you could consider going to something like a Malenki nano which is a combination rx and esc which is small and very light - that will only work with certain transmitter protocols so it would be helpful to know what you are using.
I would also maybe consider if it might be a good idea to get a non spinner working first, just getting a wedge chassis together and in weight might give you some better ideas for what to do with regards to construction moving forward.
thank you its only full plastic because it is a club at my secondary school and they can have dangerous metal weapons also the electronics are provided by the school so i cant get a malenki.nice bots by the way and thanks for the idea here is an older very shrikind down version of the bot im designing
it is a normal arna by the way i think it is 1m^3 but i have maneged to get some bots up and running(partial, the school couldnt provide the electronics at the time)
Just checking it was a fully enclosed arena with proper polycarbonate walls more than the size.
With the wheels that far back you’re probably going to find it very hard to drive. If you can swap it so they’re in the middle and the ESC/RX/battery is at the rear it’ll be much better. Definitely steps in the right direction I think!
thank you will try to do this
