I was wondering if anyone has any idea about what type of kickplate to use for a beetleweight arena. Specifically, Hot vs Cold rolled steel and using 1/8" or a 1/4" steel. I’m doing some research. Any input would be appreciated
Hi, welcome to the forum!
We use 4mm thick 400 grade hardox (also called AR400) for our beetle arena’s kickers - 100mm tall
We’ve done 6 events with it so far and they’re holding up great, but bear in mind the UK is a little less KE orientated than the US - but we’ve still had plenty of big horizontals smacking it etc!
Thanks for the response! Not alot of information is around about this kind of stuff, so its really great to have such an active community.
Yup. The UK has more control bots and less stupid verts (an echo from the hazard filled arenas and countless OOTAs of Robot Wars) than the US. Keeping an OOTA area would probably make for a nice change compared to most places out there.
In Germany we use 3.2mm Hardox 450 about 10~15 cm high.
And we have a limit of 1kJ kinetic energy for spinners. Not only due to saftey but also maintenance costs.
